A long time resident of the Charlotte area, Jeff Doctor has proven himself as a true community leader and a successful entrepreneur and businessman. As a strong activist in domestic violence programs and as an investor and owner of small businesses, Jeff has deep roots within the Charlotte community.
Not only is Jeff a successful small business man, he also has proven his commitment to human rights, working with battered women and children as a family violence counselor early in his career. In an effort to close the circle of domestic violence, Jeff saw the need to create a counseling program for men that abused their partners and spouses. The programs that Jeff established continue today and have helped create greater awareness of the issue and decrease repeat domestic violence cases. Upon moving to Charlotte, Jeff took a position with the Mecklenburg County Women’s Commission as a social worker. There, he continued to work with women and children affected by domestic violence.
After his advocacy work, Jeff worked for US Air Express as a baggage handler and then went on to work for US Airways as a flight attendant. In 2004, Jeff began his career as an entrepreneur by investing in and working at a restaurant in Charlotte. From there, Jeff went on to invest in local restaurants and businesses, even expanding his investing to restaurants and businesses in Canada. In February of 2009, Jeff started CDK Consulting, and now primarily works with consulting on energy and broadband.
Born in 1971, Jeff Doctor is the son of Albert and Bonni Doctor. His father is a Native American of the Tonawanda Band of the Seneca tribe . Jeff spent his childhood growing up in Eden, NY, neighboring the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. After graduating high school in Eden, Jeff attended Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina where he studied music education. After a year, he transferred to Potsdam State University, again pursuing music education. Jeff was very involved at Potsdam. He joined the basketball program as a walk on and participated in such activities and organizations as the Potsdam Association of Native Americans (PANA), the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), and the Student Government Association.
During college, Jeff met Allyson, a Mohawk from Akwesasne, NY, and married her in 1997. Together, they relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina and began their new life. Jeff and Allyson have an 12 year old daughter, Chloe. Allyson has worked for Carolinas Health Care System for 13 years where she is presently employed as an Assistant Vice President.
She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Allyson has a strong sense of family and community. She feels that her most important role in life is being a wife, mother and daughter. Jeff and Allyson are incredibly proud of Chloe, a competitive swimmer, lacrosse player, and honor roll student. Allyson lost her father to cancer in 2003. Though this was a great loss in her life, she feels fortunate to have her mom, Marie, as her closest friend. The Doctors believe that while life is full of busy schedules and challenges, it’s crucial to give back to the community through volunteerism.
